Hello to everyone in cyber world

Hello to everyone in cyber world. This is the first of many entries to the tax guys blog.

First things first: Tax Guys is a group of tax professionals that makes understanding taxes easier, saves you money, and shows you how to properly deal with your tax professional.

We realize tax professionals have their own language. And sometimes our language does more to confuse than inform. Our goal is to help you understand the tax process, and provide the best strategies, tips and advice to save you bunches of tax dollars.

In this first entry, I’ll tell a short story that shows why you need an advocate - a professional - when it comes to taxes. Actually, this is my sister Sharon’s story. She just left my house ten minutes ago. She told me a story I’d like to share with you.

Sharon is a high income professional that works as a contractor. Contractors are not employees so they are responsible for paying their own taxes. These taxes should be paid in advance (before year end).

In this case, Sharon did not pay tax ahead of time.

She had a tax bill of over $7,000.

Uncle Sam doesn’t take too kindly to us owing him. As Sharon got “friendly” letters from Uncle Sam, she got scared and went to a tax professional that advertised being able to drastically reduce her tax bill.

She had to pay $2,500 up front before the professional would even start on her bill. Once it all worked out, her tax bill was reduced to $4,800. When you add what she paid the professional to help with her tax bill, she didn’t come out ahead. She actually lost money.

The moral of this story is: Tax cures are far more expensive than tax planning

In the tax game, saving money is how you keep score.

Yea, I know Tax Planning seems like a bore, and a chore. That’s why Tax Guys is putting this blog together. We use plain language, and a little bit of humor, to make your life a whole lot easier.

In Sharon’s case, I’m sure she could have called the IRS and most likely negotiated the same $4,800 deal. Let Tax Guys show you how to save the $2,500, and how to pick the best tax professional.
